ANSWERS:

1. The most popular definition of psychology defines it as a science of the mind. This definition was given by John Watson. In fact, this answer was already there at the start of the article. If you still didn't get it, you need to improve your reading method. Read more on types of psychology.

2.Typically a person suffering for schizophrenia, of any sort, would encounter hallucinations. This person will not mind these hallucinations as they are, ordinarily, positive in nature. However, due to these hallucinations, they tend to retreat from "the real world".

3. Dyslexia is a condition in which a person has specific problems with reading. However, it is often coupled with other cognitive problems. Nonetheless, the only definite problem caused by dyslexia, is a problem with reading. It is, ordinarily, a condition noticed in children and can be treated with corrective measures.

4. Hypnosis or hypnotism is a debated treatment method, as it is not very easy to perform and results may or may not be tangible. Basically, hypnosis (also known earlier as mesmerism) involves hypersuggestability. This is characterized by allowing the individual to tap into their subconscious and unconscious minds to bring out hidden (a.k.a long forgotten) information.

5. Schizophrenia, mania and obsessive compulsive disorders are all included in Abnormal Psychology. However, an understanding of these conditions is required in other fields of psychology as well. Criminal psychology, and cognitive psychology also require extensive knowledge of abnormal psychology. Read more on what is abnormal psychology?

6. Sigmund Freud is the father of modern psychology. Freud's approach to human psychology was considered wrong earlier. However, his studies have contributed at explaining several phenomena of the human psyche, that earlier remained a mystery.

7. A person ordinarily goes through 4 stages in an ordinary sleep cycle. These 4 stages include 2 types of sleep, REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and NREM (Non-Rapid Eye Movement). Each sleep cycle is around 90 - 100 minutes long, as such a person goes through 4 or 5 complete sleep cycles. Read more on stages of sleep.

8. ESP, in psychology or neurology, stands for extra sensory perception. It is a branch of psychology that deals with paranormal phenomena. It is not entirely proved or substantiated, yet. However, its existence is acknowledged, mostly as psychic abilities.

9. There are 4 kinds of stimuli-response combinations. They are; conditioned stimuli-conditioned response, unconditioned stimuli-conditioned response, conditioned stimuli-unconditioned response and unconditioned stimuli-unconditioned response.

10. Yes, more often than not, psychological conditions will develop physiological manifestations. However, these manifestations (known as physical side effects) are not always tangible immediately. Mostly the manifestations are noticed after the appearance of behavioral abnormalcy.

Motivating children to reach the goal of their Aptitude

As parents and educators, we may be struggling with the question as to how to unlock our child's talent? Fortunately, it neither expensive, nor it requires some special kind of degree to motivate your child’s inner abilities. What matters most is devoting time and paying attention to your child’s potential. Be it singing, dancing, drawing, or, sports, every child has a special interest.

We as parents and educators should focus on recognizing and nurturing talents. If your child puts up an idea, or about being something in future, don't treat that as a non-sense. Please remember your ward is laying strong foundation for his future from now onwards.. Watch him play and observe what he chooses for himself. Does your child like listening to music? Prefers taking part in a sporting activity? Or likes drawing, or sketching? Watching your child choose an activity would give you a better idea about where his interest lies.

Once you're clear on what your child likes the most, the next step is to give him constant encouragement and support. Also, it's important that you as parent or a teacher should prevent children from giving up too easily on their passions, and develop that 'I can' attitude. This goes a long way in overcoming his inner fears and taking up challenges in life.

Also, while doing this make sure you first make him understand that participating is more important than winning. Let your child experience both victory and defeat. Praise him when your child wins and help him deal with pain when he doesn't.  Tell them that mistakes are nothing but learning opportunities and the road to success involves many detours. This constant encouragement goes a long way in boosting morals and building your child's confidence. It's important that you encourage your child to set goals in life and let their desire be their inspiration. Also, make sure that the goals you set are really SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.

Initiating conversation with your child on his interest, asking open ended questions on their interest i.e. what they want to be, what their dreams are? would help you plan accordingly. Appreciate them to ask questions and don't be irritated by their questions. Also, do remember that your answers should encourage your child to come to you for any help. Children learn a lot from parents on how to deal with pressures and keep perseverance. Your expressions and actions in difficult situation teach them how to react to their own problems. Therefore, it's important to develop confidence, perseverance, and patience in yourself first.

Also, provide good education to your children but at the same time make sure that the formal learning setting doesn’t take away the spark of uniqueness from your child. Be supportive and provide your child with the right tools to pursue their interests. Most importantly, never compare your child with another. Every child has his own unique talent and ability to develop it. Comparing your child isn't fair but giving him a platform to nurture and, gradually enhance and excel his talent is the best way your child can succeed.

Have a faith on your child

One Daily Soda May Boost Heart Disease

People who drank soda every day -- even diet soda -- in a recent study were more likely to develop risk factors for heart disease.

That is because a soda habit increases the risk of developing a condition called metabolic syndrome, according to the new research, and that in turn boosts the chance of getting both heart disease and diabetes.

"Even one soda per day increases your risk of developing metabolic syndrome by about 50%," says Ramachandran Vasan, MD, professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and the senior author of the study, published in the issue of the American Heart Association's journal Circulation.

But other experts, including the American Heart Association, say heart disease has many risk factors and there's not enough evidence to directly blame sodas. To be diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, three of five criteria must be met: a large waistline, elevated blood pressure, elevated fasting blood sugar, elevated fasting triglycerides, or reduced HDL or "good" cholesterol.

"This study adds to the wealth of scientific evidence that sugar-sweetened beverages increase the risk of metabolic syndrome," says Vasan. Already, he says, the rise in sugary drink consumption has been linked to the epidemic of obesity and diabetes among children and teens and to the development of high blood pressure in adults.

Story of Valentine

Story of Valentine

According to scholars there are several possibilities as to the original Valentine. One story says that Valentine was a priest in Rome during the 3rd century. When Emperor Claudius II decided that unmarried men made better soldiers than those who had wives, he outlawed marriage for all of his soldiers.

Valentine believed Claudius to be depriving the men of a God-given gift and so defied him and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

LOVE QUOTES

What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined... to strengthen each other... to be at one with each other in silent unspeakable memories. ~ George Eliot

In the arithmetic of love, one plus one equals everything, and two minus one equals nothing. ~ Mignon McLaughlin

You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have really lived, are the moments when you have done things in a spirit of love.  ~Henry Drummond

The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks away if he hears         only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no other inspiration.~ Pearl S. Buck

Love is an electric blanket with somebody else in control of the switch.~ Cathy Carlyle

Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness.                                             ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever." - Alfred Lord Tennyson

Don’ts on Valentine Day

  • Don't reminisce about Valentine's Days past (with previous lovers)...with your current date. This is the fastest way to turn a wonderful romantic evening, into one filled with tension and bitterness. You may even find that your current love quickly becomes an "ex."

  • Don't use Valentine's Day to break bad news (especially if you're planning on breaking up.)While it may be tempting, you probably should save any "questionable" news for a day other than Valentine's Day. This is perhaps why some people choose to schedule their break-ups before this famous holiday. The same goes for breaking pregnancy news to a "dubious" partner.

  • Don't re-gift Valentine's Day presents. It's just tacky.

  • Don't go on a blind date for Valentine's Day. This should be self-explanatory. It is true that many couples that have done so have a wonderful, romantic story to tell their children and grandchildren. But if you find yourself sitting across a dinner table from someone you have zero chemistry with, you'll find all the canoodling couples around you, that much more nauseating.

  • Don't watch a load of sappy movies if you're bummed about being dateless on Valentine's Day. Contrary to popular belief, some gals find it strangely "comforting" to indulge themselves in a romantic comedy marathon on V-Day. But if you're already bummed about spending the holiday alone, you're just asking to blow through a box of Kleenex. Watch some horror movies instead.

  • Don't have a one-night stand on Valentine's Day. While one-night stands are already frowned upon in society for any number of reasons, it is probably not a great idea to indulge in them for Valentine's Day. You may have a "terrific" time. It might even be the start of something beautiful. But in the event that you feel crummy during your "Walk of Shame" in the morning, you'll have one more negative memory attached to an otherwise festive holiday.

  • Don't be a Valentine's Day "Grinch." There are actually plenty of people in the world for whom Valentine's Day is a wonderful event. If you're soured on the whole experience (too commercial, too sappy—whatever), don't cast a shadow on the day for others. If your coworker won't stop yapping about her Valentine's Day plans, simply button your lip, walk away, or politely change the subject. No use in ruining someone else's joy... just because...

  • Don't make Valentine's Day a "competition." Many people hate the holiday because it often seems like people are competing to see who's the most "in love." Even if you've had the most fabulous V-Day, try to resist the urge to pry into others' celebrations. Many people like to keep their festivities private; others may not feel like sharing—especially if things didn't go so well.

  • Don't be "third wheel" on Valentine's Day. Sure, your best friend and his/her spouse have known you forever. And sure, they might have been generous enough to extend a Valentine's Day invite to you (alone) on this special day. But it might be a good idea to pass up the offer. On any other night, you might be content to play "third wheel" while bumming around and watching movies. But sharing a romantic holiday sans a date—with your favorite couple just seems a little weird.

  • Don't "overdo it" on Valentine's Day. Many women consider flowers, candy, an expensive dinner, a night of dancing, and a fabulous suite, and pricey presents— requirements for a successful holiday. For this reason, many men loathe Valentine's Day. The reality is that flowers die; restaurants become too packed to enjoy, and hotels raise their prices for services they offer all year round. While there is certainly nothing with pulling out all the stops for V-Day—make sure that the sentiment behind your gestures is what really rings true.
